Irish Wolfhounds are extraordinarily sweet dogs with a goofy personality. They are intensely loyal to their family, and would fight to the death for them, but most would hold a flashlight for a burglar. Though they are now obsolete as wolf-killers, wolfies are wonderful family dogs and companions. We breed wolfies to ensure that 
every new generation makes the breed healthier and closer to the AKC Standard.
If you are thinking of getting a wolfhound for the first time, you must give serious consideration to the hound’s great size, the cost of feeding him, the extra veterinary costs if he is ever ill, the amount of exercise he should have each day and the sufficient space to provide the freedom he requires. The cost to purchase is unimportant when compared to the overall maintenance of an animal.
